3 Layer Face Covering

Since the Delta variant hit, and especially since Omicron, our 3 Layer Silk Face Covering has been a top seller. It is constructed of 2 Layers of Cotton + 1 Layer of Silk Organza. Silk is an excellent filter material, yet remains breathable and easy to wear. It is also much more comfortable than many of the synthetic filter fabrics we tried.

Properties of Silk

Silk has electrostatic properties, meaning it’s positively charged. When a face mask has an electrostatic layer, small particles stick to it due to the positive charge. Those particles consequently don’t go through the fabric. N95 and KN95 masks have an electrostatic layer, which is what makes them so efficient.

Silk not only has electrostatic properties and is breathable, it is naturally water repellent, and may be antimicrobial and antiviral as well. Because of these superior attributes, we chose silk for our third layer filter. Our 3 Layer Face Covering is constructed of two layers of 100% high quality cotton, with an inner layer of 100% silk organza.

Design

Our 3D-style face covering sits away from your mouth and nose, so you are able to talk, laugh and yawn without it sliding off. Designing for comfort and wearability was paramount. The final result is comfortable, breathable, adjustable and fits well on a variety of head shapes and sizes. We have more info on the design of our face mask here.

Creation

Your face coverings will be created to your specifications, and all work is mindfully completed in our own studio. Because our products are made to order, construction will take from one to two weeks. We promise it will be worth the wait. Thanks for your understanding.

We have five size options available:

1. Child
2. Adult small
3. Adult medium
4. Adult large
5. Extra large

Face Covering Fit

Unlike other styles, our 3 Layer Silk Face Covering only covers where it needs to (not ear to ear). Because of the extra space around your mouth and nose, our sizing is generous. The various ties we offer allow you even more flexibility in fit.

Please Note

Please note that if you order with a silk filter, you will receive a three layer mask with the inner layer being silk and outer two layers made with cotton.

Nose Wires

You may order your silk face covering either with or without a nose wire. We have decided not to offer a ’scoops’ option in the silk, as silk ravels so easily and the scooped edge must be trimmed. Let us know if you would like to try a scoop version, though. We cannot guarantee if it will stand up to numerous washings.

Face Covering Ties

For further customization, we have three tie options to choose from: Bungee-style Elastic (think pony tail elastic), Nylon Paracord (non-stretchy soft nylon cord like a hoodie drawstring) or soft and stretchy, 3-ply Ear Loops. If you have previously ordered a tie option that doesn’t work for you, we have ties available to purchase individually here.

Please ask if you have previously ordered a fabric you don’t see below. We have many fabrics not shown here, and would be happy to check stock for you. Because our collection is extensive, fabrics are broken into two galleries:

1. Kid’s only fabrics (including a limited number of small), as well as
2. All other sizes (including kids).

Because we have been experiencing a high turnover of fabrics, we are asking if you would please pick an alternate fabric when you order your face covering. When choosing your fabric options select your first and second choice fabric for each face covering in your order. By choosing your options, you are able get the fabric you choose.

Use & Care

We recommend washing your 3 Layer Silk Face Covering by hand, because this will extend the life of your mask and ensure that it will always be ready to wear the next day. Wash at least once before you trim your elastic bungee cord, as the elastic may shrink slightly. We have discovered a salad spinner hack that is super convenient for hand washing face masks.
